This fall, Apple’s iOS 26 will introduce the Liquid Glass interface, bringing a translucent design across all Apple products. This new look, inspired by the Vision Pro, is more than just aesthetic. The Camera and Photos apps are receiving significant redesigns, while Messages and Phone apps enhance user control against unwanted communications. iOS 26 is expected to launch with the iPhone 17 models, with developer betas available now and a public beta in July.
The Liquid Glass design offers a new All Clear mode for app icons and dynamic lock screens that adapt to notifications. The Camera app simplifies its interface with minimal controls, and the Photos app benefits from a more intuitive design. The Phone app updates its layout for better call management, introducing Call Screening and Hold Assist features.
Messages now support dynamic backgrounds and group polls, while Safari’s interface becomes more user-friendly. FaceTime minimizes controls for a better call experience, and the Music app introduces lyrics translation and AutoMix features. A new Games app streamlines access to Apple Arcade, and live translation enhances communication in calls and texts.
Maps now personalizes routes and tracks frequently visited places. CarPlay integrates Liquid Glass, offering a compact design and widget support. Wallet improvements include a Digital ID for domestic travel and enhanced order tracking.
Apple Intelligence powers new features like combining emojis and using Visual Intelligence for image searches. Some updates, like AirPods Camera Remote and customizable snooze durations, were not highlighted during the announcement.
iOS 26 will be available on iPhone 11 and later models, including the iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), with its official release anticipated in September or October.
