Will DMV Services Remain in Blythewood?

The mayor of Blythewood, Sloan Griffin, is appealing to state officials to explore alternatives to retain DMV services in the area following the announcement of the local branch’s closure. The South Carolina DMV has revealed that the Blythewood branch will close on July 3 to make way for a charter school. In response, Mayor Griffin is seeking a meeting with DMV leadership to discuss potential solutions for continuing services locally. He has proposed utilizing a mobile DMV unit on donated town land as a temporary measure. A special meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday at Doko Manor to deliberate on the proposal. DMV Executive Director Kevin Shwedo, who will attend the meeting, expressed skepticism about the feasibility of a mobile unit due to resource limitations but remains open to discussing other locations if funding is secured. Residents express a strong desire to keep DMV services nearby, emphasizing the need for a convenient solution.
