Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models are set to introduce a major enhancement in their rear camera systems with the inclusion of a variable aperture. This new feature will be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, replacing the main wide-angle camera while complementing the existing ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. The variable aperture technology allows the camera to adjust the amount of light reaching the sensor, optimizing performance in various lighting conditions and offering improved control over depth of field. Apple is advancing its plans to integrate this technology into the next generation of iPhones, collaborating with suppliers for components. The camera will be produced by LG Innotech and Foxconn, with the actuator manufactured by Luxshare ICT and Sunny Optical. This marks the first time Apple will use a variable aperture in its iPhone cameras, a feature previously seen in Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S10 models. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are anticipated to launch in fall 2026, alongside the iPhone Air 2 and Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone.
