Does Fast Charging Really Affect iPhone Battery Life?

A recent six-month experiment examined the impact of fast versus slow charging on iPhone battery life. Using six iPhone 12 models, batteries were repeatedly drained from five percent and recharged to full capacity. Half of the devices used fast charging, while the others used slow charging. Additionally, another group of iPhones was kept between 30 and 80 percent charge during the same test.

Before starting, each phone’s battery capacity was measured and reassessed after 500 charge cycles. Results showed that fast charging causes minimal additional battery drain. However, maintaining a charge between 30 and 80 percent could offer slight benefits. The conclusion drawn is that users should charge their iPhones as they prefer, prioritizing convenience over marginal battery life gains. The study also included Android devices, providing insights for a broader audience interested in charging effects.
