On March 16, Rīga will host an international forum, “Future of Work in the Age of AI,” bringing together over 600 participants and 60 speakers from more than 20 countries. This event will unite European policymakers, business and technology leaders, and representatives from education, research, and civil society to discuss the evolution of Europe’s workforce in response to the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence. The forum aims to foster collaboration across sectors and transform strategic discussions into practical solutions to enhance Europe’s competitiveness, resilience, and social cohesion, while keeping people central to technological advancements.
Forecasts suggest that around 61% of jobs in Europe will be impacted by generative AI, altering job content and skill requirements. Approximately 7% of professions will need long-term reskilling. Economically, AI adoption could add up to €1.2 trillion to the European Union’s economy over the next decade, contingent on timely skills development and workforce adaptation.
Evita Simsone, Director of the State Employment Agency of Latvia, notes that AI is rapidly transforming Europe’s workforce, making AI literacy essential for anyone entering or remaining competitive in the labor market. She emphasizes the importance of applying technology to real-world tasks and developing creativity and problem-solving skills. As AI adoption accelerates, it is crucial for workers, employers, and public institutions to adapt and fully leverage these technological opportunities.
