How did a cybersecurity breach impact 22.6M at Aflac?

Aflac Inc., a major player in the supplemental insurance industry, has alerted its customers to safeguard their information following a cybersecurity breach. On June 12, an unauthorized entity infiltrated Aflac’s U.S. systems, accessing personal data. The breach affected certain systems, but Aflac contained the incident within hours and informed federal authorities.

The compromised data includes names, contact details, claims, health information, social security numbers, and other personal details linked to customers, employees, and associates. Aflac has taken measures such as resetting passwords and monitoring for suspicious activities. As of now, there is no evidence of misuse of the data.

A comprehensive review has led to notifying approximately 22.65 million affected individuals. Aflac is offering a support package through CyEx Medical Shield, providing credit monitoring, identity theft protection, and medical fraud protection for two years at no cost. Impacted individuals can register for these services by contacting Aflac’s call center before April 18, 2026.
