How is Endra transforming the design of building MEP systems with AI?

A Swedish startup, Endra, is revolutionizing the design of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in commercial buildings through artificial intelligence. Traditionally, architects hand over building designs to specialized consulting firms for MEP planning, a process that can take weeks. Endra’s AI-driven software drastically reduces this time, cutting the design phase for a 500,000-square-foot building’s electrical system from two months to less than a day. The company has recently secured $20 million in seed funding, led by Notion Capital, with contributions from Norrsken VC and angel investors. Founded by Niklas Lindgren and Anton Juric, Endra aims to triple its workforce and expand internationally with new offices in the U.S., U.K., and Germany. The startup’s software currently focuses on electrical design but plans to incorporate HVAC and plumbing systems soon. Integrating with Autodesk’s Revit, Endra’s platform uses a combination of large language models, machine learning, and deterministic algorithms to optimize MEP layouts while adhering to regional building codes. The company has already attracted over 600 companies from 90 countries, highlighting the construction industry’s need for more efficient solutions amid labor shortages and stagnant productivity. Lindgren emphasizes Endra’s proprietary technology as a significant competitive advantage in the market.
