Samsung’s legacy chipmaking nodes are gaining traction, with Intel reportedly considering the South Korean giant for developing an 8nm chip. This collaboration would mark another significant achievement for Samsung Foundry, which is poised to begin mass production of Intel’s Platform Controller Hub chip using its 8nm process. This chip will be integrated into Intel’s CPUs, with full-scale production expected to commence next year. Previously, Intel utilized Samsung’s 14nm foundry in Austin, Texas, for its 14nm PCH, but the new 8nm PCH will be manufactured at Samsung’s facility in Hwaseong, South Korea. This potential deal follows Samsung’s recent success in securing orders from NVIDIA for the Nintendo Switch 2 GPU, as well as additional low-end GPUs, further solidifying its position in the competitive chipmaking industry.
