Will the Next iPad Mini Feature an A20 Pro Chip and OLED Display?

Apple’s upcoming iPad mini is anticipated to feature an A20 Pro chip, according to recent analyses of internal Apple codenames found in a macOS kernel debug kit. This information emerged after the kit was unintentionally released on Apple’s website earlier this year, although it was swiftly removed following leaks. Initially, there were rumors that the new iPad mini would incorporate the A19 Pro chip, first seen in the iPhone 17 Pro. However, it’s now believed that the device might instead utilize the unannounced A20 Pro chip. While it’s uncertain which chip will ultimately power the next iPad mini, it’s possible that Apple initially tested the A19 Pro but later opted for the A20 Pro, especially if the device is scheduled for an update in late 2026. Historically, the iPad mini hasn’t always received the latest A-series chip upon release, leaving room for speculation. The A20 Pro chip is also expected to be part of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. Additional features rumored for the next iPad mini include an OLED display, a new speaker system with integrated vibration technology, and a water-resistant design. An unveiling could happen as early as next year, following the current iPad mini’s release in October 2024, which included an A17 Pro chip and Apple Intelligence support.
