How did Yale students raise $5.1 million for their AI social network?

Series, a social network platform, has successfully raised $5.1 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment came from notable figures such as Venmo co-founder Iqram Magdon-Ismail, Pear VC, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, and GPTZero founder Edward Tian. The platform was founded by Nathaneo Johnson and Sean Hargrow, who met at Yale University through the Society for Aspiring Entrepreneurs. Series aims to connect users seeking support with others who can offer assistance, facilitated by an AI-powered agent referred to as an “AI friend.” This approach prioritizes mutual value connections over traditional social media metrics like follower counts. The concept originated from a podcast featuring interviews with Yale entrepreneurs, which evolved into a web-based chatbot for curated introductions. The recent funding will enable Series to expand its engineering team and enhance its product offerings. Previously, Series raised $3.1 million in another pre-seed round led by Parable, with participation from Pear VC and other investors.
