The upcoming iOS 26.5 update for iPhones introduces three notable features. First, it enhances security by enabling end-to-end encryption for RCS messaging between iOS and Android devices, a feature that will gradually roll out with supported carriers globally. This encryption ensures that messages remain private and unreadable by third parties during transmission. However, traditional SMS messages will not have this level of security.
Secondly, Apple Maps will now feature “Suggested Places,” offering recommendations based on users’ locations and recent searches. This feature will start displaying ads in the U.S. and Canada later this year, clearly marked with an “Ad” label and designed with strong privacy protections to ensure users’ location data remains unlinked to their Apple accounts.
Lastly, a new Pride Luminance wallpaper is available, celebrating LGBTQ+ communities with a dynamic spectrum of colors. This addition coincides with the release of a Pride Edition Sport Loop and a Pride Luminance watch face. The iOS 26.5 update is expected to be available to all users next week.
