Did Canvas make a deal with hackers after a massive cyber breach?

A cyberattack has impacted around 9,000 universities globally, including in Canada, targeting the Canvas learning management platform. The parent company, Instructure, has reached an agreement with the hackers, ShinyHunters, who claimed responsibility for the breach. Instructure announced that the compromised data was returned and verified as destroyed, with assurances that no extortion would occur. Details of the agreement remain undisclosed, including whether a payment was made. ShinyHunters had threatened to release personal information of 275 million individuals unless a ransom was paid. Experts advise against paying ransoms, as it may encourage further criminal activity. Instructure is conducting a forensic analysis of the breach and is committed to updating its users regularly.
