Has Apple Cut iPhone 17 Prices in China for the 618 Festival?

Apple has significantly reduced the prices of its iPhone 17 Pro series in China by 1,000 yuan as the 618 shopping festival approaches, a major online retail event in the country. The discounts are available on platforms like JD.com and Tmall, with Apple’s store on Tmall directly offering the price cut. Some iPhone 17 Pro models on JD.com, factoring in trade-in deals and promotions, are now priced as low as 6,999 yuan, marking the lowest price since their launch.

The standard iPhone 17 has also seen its first significant price reduction, with certain models now costing 4,499 yuan, making them eligible for China’s national trade-in subsidy. This subsidy reduces prices by 15% on qualifying devices, up to a 500-yuan limit, though it does not apply to Pro models.

The news of Apple’s price reduction quickly gained traction on the social media platform Weibo. Meanwhile, Huawei has also lowered prices on its high-end foldable models for the first time. A technology industry analyst highlighted the ongoing competition between Apple and Huawei in the high-end market, noting that both companies are leveraging the shopping festival to boost orders and shipments.

The iPhone 17 series has been highly successful in China, contributing to Apple’s $26 billion revenue in the region during its fiscal first quarter, marking a 38% increase from the previous year. This success comes after years of declining sales in China, where Apple has faced strong competition from local brands. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently returned from China after participating in a U.S. business delegation with President Donald Trump.
