The Andhra Pradesh government has issued an alert in response to the Ebola virus presence in several African countries, implementing precautionary measures to screen passengers arriving from these regions. State Minister for Medical and Health, Satyakumar Yadav, highlighted the rising case counts and high transmission rates in countries such as Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. Following World Health Organisation warnings and Central Government guidelines, the state’s Medical and Health Department is prepared to tackle the virus’s spread and manage potential cases. Coordination between airport authorities and health officials is being strengthened to facilitate screening and testing at Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Vijayawada airports. Symptomatic individuals will be quarantined, and those in close contact will undergo medical examinations. Discussions with Visakhapatnam Port officials and directives for road route precautions have been initiated. The Central Government is monitoring incoming travelers from affected regions and sharing information with states. Drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, an action plan is being developed for Ebola emergencies. Health personnel are being alerted, and isolation wards with 15 beds are being set up in teaching hospitals near international airports. Adequate stocks of PPE and diagnostic kits are available. Minister Satyakumar advised against travel to Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan unless necessary and urged recent arrivals from these regions to report symptoms promptly for timely intervention.
