Will Shanghai Host the 2025 World AI Conference?

The 2025 World AI Conference and High-level Meeting on Global AI Governance will take place in Shanghai from July 26 to 28, emphasizing key areas such as AI infrastructure, scientific intelligence, smart devices, and the integration of AI with finance. Over 1,200 guests from more than 30 countries, including 12 award-winning individuals and 80 academicians, will attend. The exhibition space will exceed 70,000 square meters, featuring 800 companies, with half coming from outside Shanghai. Notably, 60 industry leaders and 50 state-owned enterprises will present their latest innovations. This year, the conference introduces a venture investment and incubation area, where over 200 startup projects will connect with 100 investment institutions. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will unveil its latest AI developments, including a BRICS cooperation network and an industry map of humanoid robots. Since its inception, WAIC has engaged over 6,000 industry leaders and sparked online discussions among 2.5 billion people. The AI sector in Shanghai has seen significant growth, with total industrial value exceeding 118 billion yuan and profits rising by 65 percent. Shanghai’s smart computing capacity is set to surpass 100 EFlops by year’s end. The city supports high-growth enterprises in renting computing power, offering up to 30 percent of contract value or 40 million yuan. Additionally, Shanghai has launched the country’s first corpus operation platform, with 82 locally developed large language models registered with top regulators.
