Could a cybersecurity breach affect 3 million Texas license holders?

A recent cybersecurity incident has potentially exposed the personal information of over 3 million individuals holding hunting and fishing licenses in Texas. The breach, detected by Texas Cyber Command, involved a vendor managing the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s license system. Compromised data may include driver’s license and passport numbers, as well as email, phone, and residential addresses. Importantly, no customers under the age of 18 are believed to be affected. Sensitive details such as Social Security numbers, birth dates, and financial information, including credit card details, are not thought to have been compromised. Experts advise those potentially impacted to review their credit reports and monitor for any unusual account activity. The department is providing one year of free credit monitoring for affected individuals, who must apply by Monday, September 14, to be eligible. Customers can reach out to the department to verify their eligibility.
