Samsung’s MX chief, TM Roh, has undertaken a strategic visit to China to engage with leaders of major Chinese display panel manufacturers, BOE and TCL CSOT. The South Korean tech giant is looking to procure OLED and LCD panels from these firms for its mid-range smartphones and televisions.
During his visit, TM Roh met with BOE’s Chairman, Chen Yanshun, at their Beijing headquarters to discuss the supply of flexible OLED panels for Samsung’s budget and mid-range smartphones, including the Galaxy A series. BOE’s competitive pricing on OLED panels could enable Samsung to enhance the design of these phones with more uniform and thinner bezels. This move suggests that the Galaxy S27 series might continue to feature LTPO OLED panels from Samsung Display.
Additionally, TM Roh is set to meet with executives at TCL in Shenzhen, including Chairman Li Dongsheng, to negotiate the supply of LCD panels for Samsung’s TV lineup. While Samsung’s OLED TVs utilize panels from Samsung Display and LG Display, its QLED, Neo QLED, and Micro RGB TVs rely on LCD panels from TCL CSOT.
