Is Apple’s Hide My Email Compromising User Privacy?

A vulnerability in Apple’s Hide My Email service could potentially reveal users’ real email addresses, raising privacy concerns. Despite being reported over a year ago, Apple has yet to resolve the issue. The flaw, confirmed by security tests, allows attackers to uncover email addresses intended to remain hidden. This poses a risk as free online databases can link email addresses to personal information, compromising user safety. Although Apple claimed to have addressed the issue, further investigation showed otherwise. Suggestions to suspend new Hide My Email creations were not implemented, but Apple plans a security update soon. Hide My Email, an iCloud+ feature, aims to protect users from spam and data breaches by generating alias email addresses. However, the recent transition to a “private.icloud.com” domain may inadvertently facilitate blocking by certain platforms.
