Why is Samsung’s Galaxy FE series more affordable than the Galaxy S series?

Samsung’s Galaxy S series represents the pinnacle of Android smartphones that the Korean tech giant produces annually, and this cutting-edge technology comes with a hefty price tag. The entry-level Galaxy S26 model is priced at $899.99, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra starts at $1,299.99, making them costly for some consumers. However, Samsung offers a more affordable alternative for those who still seek a high-end experience—the Galaxy FE model, which usually launches later in the year. Introduced in 2020, the Galaxy S Fan Edition (FE) provides a near-flagship experience at a reduced cost, appealing to buyers desiring premium features without the premium price. Samsung achieves this by making strategic compromises that reduce manufacturing expenses.

In September 2020, Samsung highlighted that the Galaxy S20 FE incorporated select features from the Galaxy S20 series, such as a smooth scrolling display, AI-powered camera, advanced chipset, fast connectivity, long-lasting battery, and expandable storage, all within a streamlined design. These principles continue to guide Samsung’s current Galaxy FE strategy, with newer models also focusing on enhanced AI support.

Potential buyers should be aware of the trade-offs involved in the Galaxy FE’s pricing strategy, as some might find the Galaxy S models better suited to their needs. The Galaxy S26 FE is not yet available, with the Galaxy S25 FE, which succeeded the Galaxy S25 series, having launched in early September 2025. Therefore, a comparison between the Galaxy S25 FE and the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus will be useful.
