Apple has updated its website with full details on the products eligible for 2026 sales-tax holiday periods in ten U.S. states, giving shoppers a limited window to purchase certain Macs, iPads and accessories without paying sales tax.
States covered and schedule
Apple’s list covers ten states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The tax-free days run between July 17 and August 20, depending on the state; exact dates for each state are published on Apple’s dedicated page.
Eligible products and price caps
Eligibility varies by state. The most commonly listed items are select Mac and iPad models and their accessories. In a few states, iPhone models and the Apple Vision Pro are also included. Apple notes that some states enforce maximum price thresholds that must be met for the purchase to qualify for the tax exemption.
How purchases and savings are handled
The tax-free rules apply to both online and in-store purchases. Apple warns that the tax savings may not appear at checkout and will instead be reflected on the final receipt.
Benefits for students and Back to School timing
These tax-free periods can be particularly advantageous for students, since the savings may stack with Apple’s Back to School promotion. That promo has already begun in parts of Asia and, according to Apple, is likely to start soon in the United States.
