Will Man Utd find an alternative after Mbeumo deal stumbles?

Manchester United has reached a £71 million agreement with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s stance against being held to ransom may force the club to explore other options. Initially bidding £50 million, rising to £55 million in June, United settled on a £65 million deal with an additional £6 million in add-ons. Despite the recruitment team’s efforts, they may still need alternatives. Several players across Europe’s top leagues share Mbeumo’s characteristics, including current and former United players. Options include Alex Berenguer from Athletic Club, Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni, RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon. Everton’s Alex Iwobi and Athletic Club’s Inaki Williams are also considered, though Williams’ high wages and Champions League status make a move unlikely. Marcus Rashford, despite being pushed out by United, remains a consideration, with fans questioning if a different approach could have helped him succeed at his boyhood club. Other potential targets include Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga, Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert, and Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, though a move for Gakpo seems improbable.
