Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8, its widest and lightest book-style foldable to date. The new form factor features reworked dimensions: folded, the device measures 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7 mm; unfolded it measures 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5 mm, and it weighs just 201 g. Those numbers translate into a notable increase in width compared with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: dimensions and weight
The headline change for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the increased width. Opened, it is 18.2 mm wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra (both of which measure 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.2 mm when unfolded). Folded, it is 9.1 mm wider than those same models. On the scale, the Fold 8 weighs 201 g — 14 g lighter than the Fold 7 and 13 g lighter than the Fold 8 Ultra — which helps the device feel more comfortable in hand despite a closed thickness of 9.7 mm and an open thickness of 4.5 mm.
Two displays optimized for different uses
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 retains its two-display configuration with complementary roles. The outer cover display measures 5.5 inches diagonally and uses a 10:16 portrait aspect ratio — a convenient format for apps, vertical reading, and short-form video (Reels, TikTok, Shorts). Rotated to landscape, the cover becomes a compact panel suitable for wide-format content.
The inner display spans 7.6 inches and adopts an approximate 4:3 landscape aspect ratio, a compromise that benefits both media consumption and productivity (web browsing in portrait, multi-window layouts, or two apps side-by-side). Both panels are Dynamic AMOLED 2X with adaptive refresh from 1 to 120 Hz, QHD+ resolution, HDR10+ certification and “perfect blacks.” The internal screen can reach up to 3,000 nits peak brightness and features an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare.
What a wider display changes
The increased width alters the multimedia and navigation experience. In practice, the larger internal panel provides greater comfort for streaming and multitasking: videos occupy more of the screen without forcing a severe trade-off in usable vertical space in portrait. The enlarged cover display, meanwhile, makes everyday tasks — reading, messaging, quick video viewing and one-handed use — more comfortable and practical.
