The base iPhone 18 expected by March 2027 will be equipped with 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the iPhone 17, according to analyst Jeff Pu. Pu’s assessment matches an earlier claim from analyst Dan Nystedt in April, but differs from a more recent report by Ming-Chi Kuo.
iPhone 18 RAM debate and analyst disagreement
Kuo has said both the iPhone 18 and a lower-cost iPhone 18e would have only 9GB of RAM, which would prevent the devices from supporting some Apple Intelligence features. Pu, citing his own sources and supply chain information, agrees that the iPhone 18e will come with 9GB of RAM, but maintains that the regular iPhone 18 will receive 12GB.
Design and chip details
Pu also believes the regular iPhone 18 will feature a narrower Dynamic Island. Most rumors of a smaller Dynamic Island have focused on iPhone 18 Pro models, but Chinese leaker Ice Universe has claimed the smaller Dynamic Island will be adopted across the iPhone 18 lineup. Both the iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e are expected to be powered by the A20 chip.
