macOS Golden Gate Hints at MacBook Pro OLED Display

macOS Golden Gate appears to hint at an upcoming MacBook Pro with an OLED display after Broadcasts developer Steven Troughton-Smith observed that many Liquid Glass interface elements in the beta look noticeably glossier on certain high-end OLED panels with HDR support than on ordinary displays.

Apple is reportedly planning to release new MacBook Pro or ‘MacBook Ultra’ models with an OLED display by early 2027.

Because of those reports, it is likely that macOS Golden Gate includes Liquid Glass enhancements intended to take advantage of OLED and HDR hardware.

macOS Golden Gate and Liquid Glass on OLED

Troughton-Smith specifically noted that many Liquid Glass elements have an ‘even glassier appearance’ on certain high-end OLED displays with HDR support. He observed this effect in the macOS Golden Gate beta and contrasted it with how the same interface elements appear on ordinary displays.

Taken together, the beta visuals and the reports about OLED MacBook Pro or ‘MacBook Ultra’ models suggest Apple may be aligning macOS Golden Gate’s interface refinements with the rumored OLED laptops.
