A new Chinese rumor claims Samsung Display is charging Apple as much as $250 for each foldable OLED panel used in the iPhone Duo, a figure the report says could amount to $1.25 billion in display sales.
The leak originates from China and the source is described as having a track record, but neither Samsung nor Apple has officially confirmed the figure.
iPhone Duo panel deal details
The report says Samsung Display has signed a three-year agreement to supply foldable OLED panels for the iPhone Duo and future models and is charging $250 per panel. The same report also states that if Apple ships the 5 million iPhone Duo units it is expected to before the end of this year, Samsung could earn $1.2 billion in display panel shipments for Apple’s first foldable phone.
The article notes that, while the panel numbers may seem significant, Samsung already operates a large components business that generates tens of billions in annual revenue through sales of display panels, batteries, memory chips, camera sensors and other parts.
