A teardown video shared by the YouTube channel REWA Technology offers one of the first close looks inside the iPhone 18 Pro and reveals how Apple reduced the size of the Dynamic Island by moving Face ID’s infrared camera under the display in the top-left corner.
iPhone 18 Pro internal changes
The teardown shows that the pixels above the infrared camera use a special pattern that allows infrared light to pass through while keeping the screen appearance normal at typical viewing angles. In addition to the repositioned infrared camera, the disassembly highlights other hardware updates, including a larger 48‑megapixel main camera with a variable aperture.
The unit featured in the video includes a physical SIM card tray, which corresponds to a slightly smaller battery than eSIM‑only models sold in the U.S., Canada, Japan and select other countries. This specific model carries a 4,056 mAh battery capacity.
A teardown of the U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max is still pending; that U.S. model is expected to use a Qualcomm cellular modem such as the Snapdragon X80 or Snapdragon X85. Apple says the smaller iPhone 18 Pro uses its C2 modem worldwide, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max uses the C2 modem in countries outside the U.S.
