QLED: Samsung may phase out QLED and Neo QLED TV lineup

According to a report, Samsung is significantly scaling back production of QLED and Neo QLED TVs and could stop selling those ranges in the future. The company has reportedly produced 80% fewer QLED TVs this year, falling from 10 million units in 2025 to just 2 to 3 million units in 2026.

QLED production and model changes

Samsung has discontinued entry-level QLED models and replaced them with Mini LED TVs that do not include the Quantum Dot films used to improve color accuracy and depth over regular LCD-based panels. Even in the high-end segment, the company has reduced its Neo QLED TV models, which applied a Quantum Dot layer on top of Mini LED screens.

Market pressure and the shift to Mini LED and RGB Mini LEDs

The report links these moves to aggressive pricing from Chinese TV makers. Brands such as Hisense and TCL have launched inexpensive QD TVs that sometimes contain very little Quantum Dot material or none at all. Rather than expand Neo QLED, Samsung has introduced Micro RGB TVs featuring RGB Mini LED technology and is said to plan further reductions in Neo QLED models next year, with a gradual phase-out of Neo QLED sales possible as early as 2028.
