Apple’s next-generation iPad mini will include the A20 Pro chip, a rearranged front-facing camera placed for landscape use, and a redesigned speaker system, according to assets found in Apple’s own code by Aaron Perris.
What the code and images reveal about the iPad mini
The leaked code also contains clear product images that show only the device’s front, leaving any rear or side profile changes unknown. Visible changes include a landscape front-facing camera—making this the final iPad to move the camera to that orientation—and a small groove cut out of the top of the display glass, presumably for the speaker. The volume buttons and the power button remain located on the top of the device.
The exact details of the files are not being shared, but their presence in Apple’s code suggests the product is likely to launch soon.
Rumored features and expected timing
Reporter Mark Gurman previously said the next-generation iPad mini will offer water resistance and an all-new vibration-based speaker; the icons found in the code appear to corroborate those claims. The device is also rumored to feature a slightly larger screen and an OLED display. Gurman expects the new iPad mini to launch by the end of October.
