Instacart is expanding its AI-powered grocery capabilities to Muse, Meta’s new AI product, enabling users to build personalized grocery carts from conversational prompts. Muse will connect to Instacart’s grocery infrastructure via the company’s connector program, which extends its shopping capabilities to third-party AI platforms.
Instacart already offers integrations with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and AI Mode in Google Search. The company said the Muse integration is part of a broader strategy to make its grocery technology available wherever consumers start planning or shopping.
Users can turn requests such as meal ideas or ingredient lists into personalized carts that reflect products available at participating retailers. Instacart said its technology processes 10 million daily inventory signals across nearly 100,000 stores and that its catalog includes more than 2 billion product instances, built from data on 1.6 billion lifetime orders across more than 2,200 retail banners.
Instacart’s AI ecosystem and reach
Instacart’s AI grocery ecosystem includes Clementine, a shopping assistant on the Instacart Marketplace, and Cart Assistant, which brings the company’s technology directly to retailers’ websites and apps. Cart Assistant can be customized to a retailer’s catalog, customer data, loyalty program and brand experience.
The company said those capabilities enable its AI systems to translate open-ended requests, such as planning a meal for a family, into ready-to-buy carts while taking product availability, promotions and customer preferences into account. Instacart described the Muse integration as part of its push to extend its grocery infrastructure beyond its own marketplace as consumers increasingly use AI assistants for product discovery and shopping.
Instacart said expanding across AI platforms could also help bring more consumers into online grocery shopping.
