Wayne Memorial Hospital data breach settlement: payouts and monitoring

Wayne Memorial Hospital has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a data breach that occurred between May 30 and June 3, 2024.

Wayne Memorial Hospital data breach: who is affected and what the settlement provides

The plaintiffs say the breach compromised sensitive patient information, including Social Security numbers, financial data, health insurance information and more. The settlement covers individuals whose private information was accessed in the incident.

Under the settlement, class members may receive up to $5,000 for documented losses related to the breach. Eligible documented losses include fraud, identity theft, bank fees, credit expenses and similar harms; claimants must provide documentation to receive reimbursement.

Class members who did not suffer documented losses may claim an alternate cash payment of $25. Those $25 payments will be reduced on a pro rata basis if a large number of class members request them.

All class members are eligible for two years of free credit monitoring. The services consist of single-bureau credit monitoring and $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Wayne Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Jesup, Georgia, has not admitted wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the class action.

Important dates: the deadline to exclude yourself from the class or to file an objection is Nov. 7, 2026. To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 7, 2026. The final approval hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2027.
