iPhone Duo turns into a tiny Mac, a toaster and a Nintendo DS

The iPhone Duo’s new foldable form factor is already inspiring playful, skeuomorphic apps that treat the device like a tiny computer, a musical instrument or even a kitchen appliance. Developers are experimenting with multiple folding and orientation options to deliver experiences tailored to the Duo’s seated, tent and portrait modes.

How apps are using the iPhone Duo’s foldable design

Tiny Computers ($3.99) converts the iPhone Duo into a miniature retro computer, with options inspired by the Macintosh, Commodore 64, Amiga 500, iMac G3 and iBook G3. It works best in a seated orientation, presenting a display and a virtual keyboard.

Fold & Squish (Free), from the same developer as Tiny Computers, lets you create Rorschach-like art: paint on one half of the Duo’s display, close it, rub a finger over the outer display to “squish” the virtual paint, then open it to reveal the finished design.

Portal (Free; Premium $2.99/month or $29.99/year) is a relaxation app offering more than 100 natural “portals,” each with calming sounds and breathing exercises, plus focus and sleep timers. A Sparkle Pack add-on includes glitter paints, rainbow paint and pencil guides, while the base feature set is available for free. Scenes fill the entire display when unfolded and the app also works well in tent mode; three free portals are refreshed each month.

Lake (Free) is an adult coloring book updated for the iPhone Duo. Holding the Duo in portrait mode provides a full-page coloring surface; the developer says the app is being updated for Apple Pencil. Lake includes coloring pages from a long list of artists and is free to download with basic pages and tools, while the full app requires a premium subscription priced at $9.99 per month.

Toastie ($2.99) turns the iPhone Duo into a toaster for making grilled cheese: players prepare sandwich ingredients, then close the Duo to toast the sandwich, timing their actions to avoid burning. A social post from Tom Szykulski noted turning the iPhone Duo into “the world’s most expensive toaster.” (Tom Szykulski @t_szykulski, October 7, 2026)

Delta Game Emulator (Free) has been updated for the iPhone Duo and can emulate a Nintendo DS, providing DS controls and, when closed, resembling the gaming system’s shell while putting the game into sleep mode. Delta also supports games from other systems.

TypeDraw ($4.99) makes the iPhone Duo function like a notebook: it looks like a notebook when closed and opens to writable pages that support Apple Pencil. Phil Traut noted the app’s notebook-like experience and availability on the App Store for Duo users. (Phil Traut @SpatiallyMe, October 23, 2026)

Fold Accordion ($2.99) uses the Duo’s hinge as bellows to simulate an accordion. Players open and close the Duo to make music; a learn mode lights up the keys to play.

Living Earth ($5.99) is suited to the Duo’s tent mode, offering a rotating globe that fills the display when unfolded, plus live clouds, storms and weather maps. The app provides local time and weather for chosen locations and can track hurricanes and other weather events.

Duometry ($2.99) is a folding game that challenges players to match a target angle by folding the iPhone Duo and locking in their guess.

Deck-Man ($4.99) recreates a retro cassette player: open the Duo to select music, insert the cassette, then snap the Duo closed to begin playback.

Orisuji ($4.99) is a paper maze game that starts on the inner display and requires folding the Duo to the outer display to solve puzzles.

More apps include Foldissimo (another pocket accordion experience), Fold Focus ($5.99/month), a Pomodoro-style timer that encourages keeping the Duo closed while building a virtual city during work or study sessions, Foldfish (Free), a fishing game where you unfold to cast and reel, and Nitelore (Free), an anti-gravity racing game with neon visuals that suits the Duo’s display.
