Some upright MagSafe charger designs can fail to hold the iPhone Duo when it is unfolded, causing the device to tip or tilt, as demonstrated by Arun Maini (Mrwhosetheboss). Mrwhosetheboss posted a related tweet (“does this count as auto rotate https://t.co/cNCz73ud1P”) on October 21, 2026 showing the issue.
How the iPhone Duo’s design affects MagSafe stands
The MagSafe ring on the back of the iPhone Duo is present only on one half of the device, and the uneven weight when the phone is open can place extra force on that side. Some upright chargers do not have sufficiently strong magnets to compensate for the imbalance. iPhones include an extra anti-rotation magnet at the bottom of the magnetic charging ring, but some chargers are not designed to engage that magnet.
On Reddit, users noted that Nilay Patel demonstrated the iPhone Duo charging horizontally on a MagSafe charger with no issue, suggesting the problem may not affect every charger or every orientation. Charging with the iPhone Duo open and held in portrait orientation may work on some stands, but using upright MagSafe stands with the Duo closed appears to be the safest option. A flat charger does not present the same rotation or tipping issue.
Companies will likely make wider stands with some kind of ledge to hold the Duo upright when unfolded, but if you plan to use the Duo on a desk, be aware that some MagSafe chargers will have positioning limitations.
The iPhone Duo launches on Friday, October 23.
