A report claims Samsung will equip the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ variants that use the Exynos 2700 chip with a new M2700 5G modem, offering faster data transfer and improved power efficiency while occupying about 4% less chip area thanks to optical shrinking. The M2700 is said to be built on the same 4nm manufacturing process as the Shannon 5410 modem used in the Galaxy S26 series.
The new modem reportedly supports the 3GPP Release 18 standard, an upgrade over the Release 17 implementation in the Galaxy S26 series, and includes upgraded satellite communication (NTN) capabilities. Internal testing by Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) division has produced highly favorable results for the M2700, according to the report.
M2700 modem: improvements and lineup changes
Samsung is said to be reorganizing its modem lineup under a new “M series” naming convention and retiring the Shannon brand. The M2700 represents the first modem identified under that new naming scheme for upcoming Exynos-powered Galaxy S27 models.
A separate modem, the M2800 designed for the Galaxy S28 series, reportedly uses Samsung Foundry’s 2nm process node and is expected to launch in 2028. That 2nm upgrade is described as likely to deliver even more significant improvements in power efficiency.
