Apple’s new iPad mini introduces the company’s first “Acoustic Display” audio system, using the device’s screen to help produce sound.
How the Acoustic Display works
The system pairs specially designed woofers that push audio through the display to deliver what Apple describes as punchier bass and higher volume. Separate tweeters, responsible for higher frequencies, are concealed between the display glass and the aluminum enclosure.
Together, these components are designed to improve overall audio performance. The Acoustic Display’s sealed enclosure also contributes to the new iPad mini’s IP67 rating.
The new iPad mini starts at $699 for Wi‑Fi models and $849 for Wi‑Fi and Cellular models. Pre-orders begin on Wednesday, October 28, with availability starting Friday, November 6.
