Is WestJet’s cybersecurity breach under investigation?

The Canadian privacy commissioner has initiated an investigation into a cyberattack on WestJet, where a “malicious actor” accessed the airline’s systems. In a statement released last month, WestJet confirmed that a “sophisticated, criminal” third party obtained some personal and travel-related data during the June incident. The airline assured that the safety of its operations was never compromised. The Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Philippe Dufresne, stated that the investigation will examine the security measures WestJet had in place at the time of the breach and assess the adequacy of its notifications to those affected.
