The investment was led by Timespan Ventures, with additional contributions from Neo and Streamlined Ventures. Timespan Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, is headquartered in Los Angeles and invests in technology companies across various sectors.

Matey plans to utilize the funds to enhance its product offerings, expand its engineering and go-to-market teams, and strengthen partnerships with defense organizations, law firms, and universities. Founded by Jared White, Matey specializes in developing AI tools for criminal defense. Its flagship platform, CrimD, assists in case preparation by processing large volumes of legal data, organizing case discovery, transcribing digital media, analyzing facts, and generating trial-ready outputs. CrimD is already in use by public defenders, law firms, and government agencies throughout the United States. Based in Austin, Matey is committed to providing practical legal AI solutions focused on case strategy.
