Ulster University, in collaboration with the Department for the Economy, hosted a two-day AI conference in Derry~Londonderry, featuring MIT’s Paul Cheek. The event, titled ‘Crossing the AI Frontier,’ aimed to position the North West as a hub for AI innovation. Paul Cheek, a recognized technologist and entrepreneur, shared his expertise, emphasizing the region’s potential for sustainable business transformation through AI.

Participants, including students, businesses, and public sector leaders, gained practical insights into applying AI to enhance regional competitiveness. Moira Doherty from the Department for the Economy highlighted the initiative’s importance for regional growth and job creation, aligning with the expansion of the Magee campus as a significant investment for Derry~Londonderry’s future.

Professor Colin Turner praised the opportunity for attendees to learn from Cheek’s global experience, reinforcing Ulster University’s commitment to fostering innovation in partnership with local organizations. The event was supported by the Department for the Economy, Matrix, Invest NI, and AICC, aiming to boost AI skills and capabilities in the region.
