Samsung’s Exynos chips, known for past issues with overheating and performance throttling, have seen improvements over recent years. The South Korean company has expanded its high-performance Exynos chip range to the automotive industry, with BMW set to integrate these chips into their vehicles. The Exynos Auto V720 chip has been chosen for BMW’s upcoming electric vehicle, the iX3, marking the debut of BMW’s new electric platform. This chip will also feature in future electric and internal combustion BMW models. Although not officially announced by Samsung, the Exynos Auto V720 is reportedly a 5nm chip, similar to the Exynos Auto V920 launched in 2023, which includes a 10-core CPU and an AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse GPU. This latter chip is expected to be used in BMW’s next-generation 7 Series. Samsung’s Exynos Auto series, developed by its System LSI division and manufactured by Samsung Foundry, powers in-vehicle infotainment systems, offering media playback and real-time data from vehicle sensors.
