Earlier this year, Samsung Display secured a victory in a patent infringement case against the Chinese company BOE, which had illicitly acquired Samsung’s proprietary OLED technologies. As a result, the US Federal Trade Commission prohibited BOE and its subsidiaries from shipping OLED panels to the United States. However, the situation might soon take a turn.
After resolving their dispute with BOE a few months ago, Samsung Electronics is considering purchasing mobile OLED panels from the Chinese firm. Reports suggest that BOE’s Chairman, Chen Yanshun, recently visited Samsung Electronics’ office, meeting with key executives, including TM Roh, head of Samsung DX, and Yong Seok-woo, leader of Samsung’s TV division.
It is believed that discussions during the meeting included BOE potentially supplying Samsung with a large volume of LCD panels for TVs and small-sized OLED panels for Galaxy smartphones.
This wouldn’t be the first collaboration between the two companies, as BOE has previously supplied OLED panels for Samsung’s budget Galaxy phones. However, their business relationship deteriorated following the patent infringement lawsuit, leading to a halt in their dealings.
