Did Sphinx secure $9.5M in its Seed Round?

Sphinx, a company specializing in AI for data, has launched with a $9.5 million Seed round, introducing an AI copilot designed for data professionals. Leading the funding round was Lightspeed, with contributions from Bessemer Venture Partners, Box Group, K5, and Impatient VC, among others. The company also has the backing of industry leaders like Steve Cohen and Naveen Rao. The new funds will be directed towards developing AI that seamlessly integrates with data science workflows.

Unlike traditional software development, data science demands a more iterative and exploratory approach. Sphinx’s AI copilot is specifically designed for data, emphasizing accurate representation and model verification, while grounding responses in quantitative evidence. This approach aims to redefine how AI interacts with data, making it crucial for enterprises to extract valuable insights rapidly.

The Sphinx copilot is available now, offering features like autocomplete and agentic reasoning to convert raw data into actionable insights. It supports various applications, from optimizing supply chains to enhancing sabermetrics, and integrates into tools like Jupyter notebooks and VSCode, aligning with existing data team workflows.

The company, founded by Rohan Kodialam and Jamie Bloxham, aims to bridge the gap between advanced AI models and data science tools. Their focus is on representation learning and reinforcement learning to accelerate data-driven decision-making across industries such as consumer goods, retail, and financial services.

Sphinx’s technology has already shown promise, helping companies like Oats Overnight quickly uncover patterns in shopper behavior, thus becoming an integral part of their analytics processes. With a potential market of $100 billion for data insights, Sphinx is poised to make a significant impact.
