Immigrants often face the challenge of coordinating and financing care for their elderly relatives from afar, spending significant time and money on the process. London-based healthtech startup Nila is addressing this issue by providing a seamless, technology-driven solution for managing senior care remotely. Recently, Nila secured $2.4 million in pre-seed funding led by LocalGlobe, with additional support from Redbus Ventures and angel investors associated with companies like Revolut, Wise, and Nala.
The funding will support the expansion of Nila’s AI-driven platform, which helps immigrants manage healthcare and caregiving needs for elderly relatives overseas. Initially focusing on India, the company plans to extend its services across Asia, including the Philippines. Since its inception, Nila has successfully facilitated over 3,000 care requests in various Indian cities, maintaining a noteworthy record of zero customer churn.
Founded by Anthony Jacob, a former remittance payments expert, Nila was inspired by his personal struggles in coordinating care for his parents in Sri Lanka during the pandemic. The company prides itself on a diverse team, with over 70% identifying as minorities or immigrants, operating across the UK, US, and multiple Indian cities.
Nila’s core offering is an AI-powered care coordination platform, which integrates cross-border payment systems and a network of specially trained “Nila Certified” carers. These professionals provide comprehensive services, including home visits, medication management, medical appointments, and payment facilitation for medical expenses.
Nila aims to bridge the gap in cross-border senior care, offering a high-quality, efficient solution that keeps families informed and connected. The company is set to expand rapidly in Indian metropolitan areas and plans to enter broader Asian markets, tapping into the $130 billion global remittance flow, a significant portion of which is spent on healthcare for elderly family members. Nila aspires to become the leading eldercare platform for global families, enhancing its technology and operations to serve as the default care partner for the diaspora.
