At the 2023 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, China showcased its determination to strengthen its AI capabilities amid US technology restrictions. The event concluded on a Monday after three days of discussions among experts and tech leaders. During the conference, China unveiled two new alliances aimed at reducing reliance on foreign technology. The Model-Chip Ecosystem Innovation Alliance seeks to link AI software developers with domestic chip manufacturers such as Huawei, Biren, and Moore Threads, promoting a fully “made-in-China” AI infrastructure. Additionally, the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce AI Committee, which includes companies like SenseTime and StepFun, aims to increase the adoption of Chinese-developed AI across various industries. These initiatives represent China’s strategic response to US sanctions restricting access to advanced NVIDIA chips, as Chinese tech firms strive to maintain momentum in AI development. The conference also highlighted plans to integrate AI into both business operations and everyday life.
