GammaTime, a streaming platform based in West Hollywood specializing in micro-dramas, has successfully raised $14 million in seed funding. The funding round was spearheaded by Israeli venture funds Vgames and Pitango, with notable investments from celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Ohanian is also the founder of the early-stage venture firm Seven Seven Six.
The company is led by CEO Bill Block, former head of Miramax studio, with Slava Mudrykh, an ex-Google games executive, as chief revenue officer. Alex Montalvo, a former Quibi executive, joins as chief content officer. Micro-dramas, characterized by 90-second episodic series with soap opera-like content, gained popularity in China during the pandemic and have now found a strong foothold in the U.S. Block noted that the format has been well-received domestically, with the majority of revenues coming from the U.S. over the past two years.
GammaTime’s content lineup includes contributions from Anthony E. Zuiker, the creator of the “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” franchise.
