Is the Pebble Round 2 reviving a classic smartwatch?

Pebble has announced the return of the Pebble Time Round, reimagined as the Pebble Round 2. This new version enhances the original by addressing previous limitations. It boasts a bezel-free 1.3-inch color e-paper display and is available in matte black, brushed silver, and rose gold. Thanks to advancements in Bluetooth technology, the smartwatch can last up to two weeks on a single charge while maintaining its slim profile. Operating on the open-source PebbleOS, it is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. While it offers basic sleep and activity tracking, it is not designed as a fitness watch and lacks heart rate monitoring. The Pebble brand was revived after Google released the PebbleOS source code, following its bankruptcy in 2016 and subsequent acquisition by Fitbit, which was later bought by Google. Eric Migicovsky, the creator of Pebble, has criticized Apple’s restrictions on third-party smartwatches, claiming they hinder the Pebble’s functionality with iPhones. The Pebble Round 2 is available for pre-order at $199 and is expected to ship in May.
