In 2020, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S20 Ultra, its first phone equipped with a 5,000mAh battery. Despite this, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, with a smaller 3,969mAh battery, outlasted it on a single charge due to Apple’s efficient integration of hardware and software. Since then, Apple has consistently increased the battery capacity in its Pro Max models. Meanwhile, Samsung has stuck with the 5,000mAh battery for its Galaxy S Ultra phones, relying on its initial capacity advantage over iPhones.
However, iPhones have consistently delivered longer battery life, and the situation is now more challenging for Samsung. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has not only caught up but surpassed the Galaxy S25 Ultra in battery capacity, featuring a 5,088mAh battery compared to Samsung’s 5,000mAh. With Apple’s superior power efficiency, the iPhone 17 Pro Max offers significantly longer battery life than its Samsung counterpart. As a result, Samsung can no longer claim superiority in battery capacity, even on paper. The company may need to reconsider its strategy to avoid falling behind and disappointing its fans.
