Kesennuma Hackathon 2025 is set to be a transformative event in Kesennuma City, Miyagi, Japan, from October 5-17, 2025. This global hackathon, focusing on AI and Web3 technologies, invites a diverse group of developers, engineers, designers, and researchers to collaborate with the local community. The event aims to address pressing regional challenges such as declining birth rates, an aging population, and economic stagnation. Participants will engage in ideation sessions before developing technological prototypes during the hackathon from October 10-12. A public demonstration will follow on October 13, with further refinement of solutions occurring until October 17.
The Kesennuma Hackathon is organized by the Kesennuma Hackatsuon Executive Committee, led by Hikari Igarashi and Luciano DeAngelo. Local partners include the Kesennuma City Government and Kesennuma Town University. Sponsors such as FORUM8 and ENS, along with the city’s mascot Hoya Boya, support the event.
The hackathon offers a unique opportunity to create real impact, utilize cutting-edge AI and Web3 tools, and blend global expertise with local insights. Its extended format allows for deeper collaboration and feedback than typical hackathons. Participants will showcase their projects at Pier 7, potentially leading to long-term implementation with community support.
In addition to technological innovation, the event celebrates Kesennuma’s rich cultural heritage, including its 350-year tradition of single-line fishing. Attendees will not only contribute to meaningful projects but also immerse themselves in Japanese culture and network with influential figures in the tech industry.
