What’s Happening with Apple Silicon, iPhone Pocket, and More?

As November progresses, 2025 is nearing its end without the anticipated smaller hardware updates, though a surprising new iPhone accessory was released this week. Apple celebrated the fifth anniversary of its successful Apple silicon on Mac, while the future of the iPhone Air seems uncertain. On the software side, Apple introduced the second beta of iOS 26.2 and launched a Digital ID feature for U.S. passports in the Wallet app.

Apple’s transition from Intel to Apple silicon in Macs marked its fifth year, starting with the M1 chip in 2020. The M1, known for its impressive performance, has evolved through five generations, culminating in the recent M5 chip in the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

In a surprising move, Apple introduced the iPhone Pocket, a limited-edition accessory resembling a knitted pocket or sock, in collaboration with Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE. The iPhone Pocket, available in various colors and strap lengths, quickly sold out in the U.S.

Sales of the thin and light iPhone Air have been disappointing, leading Apple to delay its next-generation release initially planned for 2026. The company is considering improvements, including an additional rear camera, with a potential launch in Spring 2027 alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.

Rumors of updates for the HomePod mini, Apple TV, and AirTag have not materialized as expected in 2025. Delays may be linked to Apple’s revamped Siri and smart home platform expansion, though the reasons for the AirTag’s delay remain unclear.

The second beta of iOS 26.2 introduces features like a Liquid Glass look for the Measure app, CarPlay messaging options, and improved animations.

Apple has launched a Digital ID feature for U.S. passports in the Wallet app, allowing use at TSA checkpoints and future identity verification in stores and apps. However, it does not replace physical passports for international travel.
