Kuwait is set to host the first Gulf Red Crescent Conference on Artificial Intelligence on October 22, under the patronage of Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya. This event represents a significant step toward creating a unified Gulf approach to using AI in humanitarian efforts, enhancing Kuwait’s position as a leader in humanitarian innovation and regional cooperation. The conference, themed “Towards New Horizons in Humanitarian Work and Development Media – Investing in the Power of Artificial Intelligence,” will be held in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council’s General Secretariat at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center from October 22 to 23. It coincides with Gulf Red Crescent Day on October 23 and will convene experts and specialists from the Gulf and beyond, along with international humanitarian organizations’ representatives. The event underscores the commitment to integrating modern technology in humanitarian work, focusing on how AI can improve relief and development media programs. The agenda includes sessions on AI’s role in data collection and analysis, early prediction and response mechanisms, challenges in relief operations, and the ethical and legal implications of AI in humanitarian contexts. Discussions will also cover AI applications in relief efforts, showcasing Gulf national societies’ experiences and highlighting initiatives in health, environmental, and social awareness campaigns. Additionally, the conference will launch a Gulf digital initiative and host a regional workshop for media professionals in the humanitarian sector, focusing on crisis coverage, field reporting, safety, ethics, and digital content production.
