Has Western Sydney University been hit by a major cyber attack affecting degrees?

Western Sydney University has experienced a significant cybersecurity breach, with fraudulent emails sent to students and alumni falsely claiming their degrees have been revoked. The emails, which appeared to be from official university accounts, informed recipients that their qualifications were invalid and that they were permanently excluded from further studies. Some of the emails also referenced a security vulnerability related to parking permits. The incident has caused considerable stress and anxiety among students and graduates, with concerns raised about the accuracy of personal information included in the emails. The university acknowledged the fraudulent nature of the emails and is working to inform affected individuals while cooperating with NSW Police in the ongoing investigation. This breach follows a previous incident earlier this year, where the personal data of 10,000 students was exposed online.
