As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly influential in all areas of life, Christians are urged to play a proactive role in its development. This was the central message of the “AI for Humanity” conference held on October 7 at Colorado Christian University. The event, organized in collaboration with Gloo AI and the Christian Post, delved into how AI can be harnessed for church missions while addressing potential risks and how to mitigate them.
Experts in technology, education, public policy, and discipleship emphasized the need for AI to be developed with ethical guidelines that uphold human dignity and well-being. Dr. Richard Land, Executive Editor of the Christian Post, likened AI to the printing press in terms of its revolutionary impact, warning of the challenges it may bring. He stressed that humans, as bearers of God’s image, should engage with AI to prevent it from becoming dehumanizing.
Keynote speaker Pat Gelsinger, executive chairman at Gloo and former Intel CEO, highlighted the potential of AI as a positive force. He urged Christians to seize the opportunity to shape AI, learning from past oversights with social media. Gelsinger envisions AI as a transformative tool for the church, capable of educating children globally and reducing poverty, aligning with the compassionate mission of Jesus Christ.
Gloo’s principles focus on openness, accountability, and ethical tech development, advocating for values that resonate with both secular and Christian tech leaders. With AI set to influence nearly every facet of life, the call for Christian involvement in its development is more pressing than ever.
